ENERGY-EFFICIENT GLASS PACKAGES:
THE WINDOW UPGRADE THAT MAY PAY FOR ITSELF IN ENERGY SAVINGSAs energy costs continue to skyrocket across the country – gas, electric and heating oil alike – you may be looking for ways to maximize the energy-efficiency of your home during your remodel or new construction project. Look no further than state-of-the-art, energy-efficient glass packages. Available on all Vinyl Replacement, Specialty and Performance Series New Construction Windows, these glass package upgrades may pay for themselves in energy savings all year round, while improving the overall comfort of your home and perhaps even increasing the value of it.
In fact, they’re so energy-efficient they qualify as ENERGY STAR-qualified products.*
Alside offers many energy-efficient glass packages. All selections feature PPG’s Solarban 60 Low-E glass and a “warm edge” spacer system. Additionally, all of them feature Argon gas between the panes of glass. Argon gas is a colorless, odorless, nonflammable, nontoxic and safe inert gas. Heavier than air, the Argon gas creates an additional layer of insulation that reduces the transmittance of heat and cold, but not light.
We offer both the ClimaTech and ClimaTech Plus glass packages, as well as PPG’s Solarban 60 Low-E glass and the warm edge spacer systems.
CLIMATECH® HIGH-PERFORMANCE INSULATED GLASS PACKAGE: ENERGY-EFFICIENCY FOR ALL SEASONS
Our exclusive ClimaTech high-performance insulated glass package is a state-of-the-art combination of three energy-efficient elements, each contributing to a superior glass unit that may help to pay for itself in energy savings through all seasons.
1. Solarban® 60 Low-E glass from PPG
Solarban 60 Low-E glass (low emmisivity) helps reduce energy costs in two ways.
In summer, Solarban 60 helps block out long-wave radiation (direct sunlight) from the sun, keeping your home cooler.
In winter, Solarban 60 helps retain furnace heat while allowing warming, short-wave solar rays to enter the home, putting less strain on your furnace to maintain a comfortable warmth.
2. Intercept™ Warm Edge Spacer from PPG
The Intercept Spacer System is designed to keep the edges of the window glass warmer. Even with insulating glass, if the edges are not sealed properly, the insulation of the window as a whole may be compromised. The Intercept spacer creates a “warm edge” seal for superior insulation and reduced likelihood of condensation at the edges of the window.
The Intercept Spacer System features a unique, one-piece metal alloy with a U-Channel design that creates an effective thermal barrier to help reduce conducted heat loss through the window. The sealed, one-piece design makes Intercept spacer stronger and better at retaining insulating gas than many conventional designs.
3. Insulating Argon Gas
Argon gas is a colorless, odorless, nonflammable, nontoxic, inert gas that is sealed between the two panes of glass. Heavier than air, and completely safe to humans and animals, the argon gas provides an additional layer of insulation, increasing energy-efficiency and also acting as a sound barrier to help deaden outside noise.
CLIMATECH® PLUS HIGH-PERFORMANCE INSULATED GLASS PACKAGE:
SUPERIOR ENERGY SAVINGS YEAR-ROUND.
The ClimaTech Plus high-performance insulated glass package adds an additional level of high performance and energy-efficiency to our exclusive ClimaTech packages.
ClimaTech Plus features the same Solarban 60 Low-E Glass and argon gas fill between the panes, but adds the technology of the SST Warm Edge Spacer System for even greater gains in thermal comfort and energy savings.
SST Warm Edge Spacer from PPG
The SST Spacer System combines a patented structural foam spacer with a seal of hot metal butyl to create a non-conductive edge. The elimination of metal-to-glass contact makes the ClimaTech Plus glass package up to 54% more energy-efficient than ordinary insulated glass units. The non-metal edge also helps prevent seal failure by minimizing the subtle movement of glass panes within the unit.
- 54% more thermally efficient at the edge than windows made with conventional box aluminum spacers
- 950 times less conductive than traditional aluminum spacers
- Dramatically reduces window condensation at the edges

* The ENERGY STAR program is a voluntary partnership among the U.S. Department of Energy, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the NFRC. It is designed to assist consumers in the recognition of energy-efficient products and promote the environmental and economic benefits of these products through the ENERGY STAR label and other program activities.
